Walsall lost their Championship status despite eventually defeating Rotherham United 3-2 on the last day of the season before a packed Bescot Stadium.. Not only did Saddlers need to win but were hoping and praying results would go in their favour too. At half time it was stalemate at 0-0 but had ex -Saddler Martin Butler got his shooting boots on The Millers could have been two up.
In the 48th minute Walsall took the lead through Simon Osborn from a Bradbury cross. However Osborn conceded a penalty 11 minutes later that Proctor tucked away. Osborn's day got worse when he was sent off for two yellow cards before Mark Wright gave Walsall a 2-1 lead.
Rotherham scored their second penalty in the 90th minute converted by Warne. News filtered through that Gillingham were drawing 0-0 with Stoke City so it wasn't looking too good anyway. But hopes were raised again when Paul Ritchie put Saddlers 3-2 ahead with a headed goal in time added but Stoke couldn't force the issue and Gillingham survived.
